A mentally ill criminal known as "The Old Man" has escaped from the asylum at Sketchley Hill near London, where he had been imprisoned for twenty-four years. Shortly thereafter, Lord Arranway catches a burglar in his castle. However, Lady Arranway intervenes to prevent her husband from shooting the intruder. This leads to a tragic incident.
