Sweden has no fewer than twelve sites of natural and cultural interest included on Unesco's World Heritage List - an impressive tally for a relatively small country, and something to be proud of. At the same time, Sweden as a nation pledges itself to safeguard and cherish these sites and their inalienable qualities for generations to come. This book is a journey, in words and pictures, as well as in time and space, to all twelve World Heritage Sites.The pictures are an attempt to show, in an unaffected manner, the traces of mankind's use of the landscape. The sites are so rich in themselves that any arranged settings would be detrimental. The intention is that those who have seen the pictures will also recognise the places.
