The events depicted in this book are based on true occurrences; Jan Petersen documented them in 1933/34 and smuggled the manuscript abroad at great personal risk. "Unsere Strasse" was published in London in 1938 and later in German in 1947. It is regarded as a crucial work of the German resistance against the National Socialists, capturing the spirit of defiance and the harsh realities faced by those who opposed the regime.
