The Third World War began in 1992 with the explosion of a new type of bomb over Japan. Thirty-eight years later, the world has at last begun to recover. But in Neo-Tokyo, near ground zero of the original destruction, a dramatic confrontation sets in motion a devastating series of events, from which the world may never recover. And at the heart of the turmoil is a living conundrum, feared and prized for its potential to save or destroy the recovering world. It is someone or something known only as ... AKIRA.
