This volume presents the contributions to the third symposium on the "Search for the Causes of Schizophrenia". It opens up new perspectives for schizophrenia Part I focuses on the precursors, onset and early course of schizophrenia, while part II deals with the complex relationship between brain functions assessed by brain imaging and neuropathology and specific psychopathology of schizophrenia at the level of morphological, functional and regional brain abnormalities. Part III presents the associations between brain functions, receptors and schizophrenia at the level of biochemical analyses together with their molecular basis at the level of 31p spectroscopic resonance study of the brain phospholipid metabolism and with PET studies of receptor ligands and regional changes in metabolism.
