However, Chizuru maintains a distance, leaving Chizuko puzzled. After a heartbreaking separation, Chizuko begins to understand the reasons behind Chizuru's reticence. Presented as a translation of a rediscovered text by a Japanese writer, this novel captivated readers upon its Mandarin Chinese release in 2020, earning Taiwan’s prestigious Golden Tripod Award. It delves into lost colonial histories and illuminates how power dynamics shape our most intimate relationships, weaving a bittersweet tale of love between two women against a backdrop of language, history, and cultural exploration.
