From the time of the Celts and the Vikings, and through the medieval period, the Isle of Man has developed a distinctive culture and traditions all of its own. The photographs take up the story in late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries when the island prospered as a holiday resort and as a retreat from mainland Britain.
