Im vorliegenden Band wird eine gruselige Kamera wiederbelebt: "Die unheimliche Kamera", Gänsehaut-Band 15 und "Bitte lächeln", Gänsehaut-Band 49 gehören zu den gelungensten Gruselgegenständen, die Stine je eingesetzt hat. Also, das Prinzip ist folgendermassen: Die mit der Kamera fotografierten Personen erleiden schreckliche Unfälle und dies wird auf den Fotos angekündigt. Als Julie ihr eigenes Bild im freien Fall vom Sprungbrett des Schwimmbades sieht, hat sie einen Plan, um das zu verhindern, aber der geht schief. Hier überzeugt die Rahmengeschichte eher als die eigentliche Horrorland-Story, denn auch Julie findet keinen Weg hinaus. Originelle Fortsetzung der langsam etwas einschläfernd wirkenden Reihe, hoffentlich ist bald ein Ende in Sicht!?
