Původně mělo jít o nenáročný týden, lokace byla dokonalá, štáb na místě a scénář připravený. Vyskytl se ovšem zádrhel, s nímž nikdo nepočítal. V Caulfieldově domě skutečně strašilo! V této vile došlo v průběhu desetiletí k mnoha strašlivým vraždám. A žádné z obětí se evidentně nepodařilo uniknout do posmrtného života… Vše začalo neškodným žertíkem – koneckonců, někteří z duchů byli pouhými dětmi. Následovaly potíže s technikou, podivné zvuky a Tonyho zjištění, že vidí a slyší mrtvé. S tím by se pravděpodobně dokázal vyrovnat. Každopádně už zažil mnohem děsivější a nebezpečnější situace. Ale to jen do chvíle, než kdosi prolil v domě krev. Byla to pouze drobná nehoda, ale úplně to stačilo. Tony a většina herců i štábu se náhle stali vězni v domě, který již mnohokrát dokázal, že umí zabíjet. Napsat Dluh krve nebylo mým původním záměrem, protože jsem považovala příběh za uzavřený s koncem Spojení krve. Po čase jsem však cítila potřebu prozkoumat Vickiin nový život a změny ve jejím světě. Velkým rozdílem bylo, že Henry se usadil ve Vancouveru, což znamenalo, že Vicki a Mike museli za ním. Tato změna je zbavila vnitřního spojence, a v případě potíží byli odkázáni sami na sebe, přičemž většinu problémů si způsobili sami. Krevní pouta se zaměřují na vztahy mezi hlavními protagonisty a metafyzické záhady, a protože jsem v Dluhu krve vyřešila jejich vztahy, neplánuji další knihy o Vicki Nelsonové, kromě sbírky povídek nazvané Krevní banka. V této sbírce se opět objevují soukromá detektivka Vicky Nelsonová, detektiv Celluci a upír Henry Fitzroy, levoboček anglického krále Henryho VIII. Povídky doplňují příběhy z předchozích knih a zkoumají nástrahy důvěrných vztahů mezi lidmi a upíry, stejně jako jejich společný boj s temnými přízraky a démony. I upíři mohou stát na straně světla a spravedlnosti.

Ale vědomí toho, čemu čelil, tvořilo jen polovinu bitvy – skutečná výzva spočívala v tom, jak přežít něco, co přežít nelze, a jak porazit neporazitelné!
