Jakými cestami se pravoslavná teologie ve 20. století dostávala na Západ? Jak byla spojená s domovskými církvemi, které prožívaly otřesy, v nichž mizel starý život a zřídka se objevoval nový? Těmito otázkami se zabývá tato kniha vedoucí čtenáře od dědictví Byzance přes misie k slovanským národům, Mongolský chanát a Osmanský sultanát až do moderní doby. Stopuje, jak se pravoslavný duchovní, církevní, kulturní i intelektuální život dostával na Západ díky prvním moderním misiím, ale pak zejména kvůli nucené emigraci statisíců věřících, kteří v novém prostředí hledali, jak uchopit a předat dědictví víry a naděje, které si s sebou přinesli, a jak se otevřít novým možnostem, jež touto vírou a nadějí nahlíželi.

Tato kniha navazuje na první monografii stejného autorského týmu nazvanou Cesty pravoslavné teologie na Západ ve 20. století (CDK, 2012). Nevypráví tedy znovu celý příběh, jak se po pádu Osmanské říše a pak zejména po bolševické revoluci v Rusku pravoslaví na Západ dostávalo, jaké teologické instituce tam vznikaly, s jakými problémy se pravoslavní teologové a teoložky v západní Evropě a ve Spojených státech museli potýkat. Vstupuje do tohoto příběhu a v jeho rámci zkoumá, co si ze svých domovských zemí přinesli a jak dále toto dědictví rozvinuli představitelé jednotlivých teologických proudů, kteří na Západě našli svůj domov, i to, co do pravoslavné teologie přinesli ti, kdo k pravoslaví na Západě konvertovali. Debata je doplněna o hlasy významných teologů z komunistických zemí a z Řecka, které vývoj pravoslavné teologie ve 20. století na Západě spoluovlivňovaly. Mnohohlas pravoslavné teologie na Západě vedle sebe nechává zaznít tvořivý návrat k církevním otcům, obnovu hesychastické spirituality uvnitř i vně mnišského života, slavjanofilskou snahu najít svébytně pravoslavný celistvý způsob poznávání skutečnosti, církevního života a angažovanosti ve světě, i sofiologickou snahu zachytit a vyjádřit mysticky nahlédnutý, Boží moudrostí daný vnitřní řád této celistvosti.
