Jej bohaterowie są ludźmi albo istotami podobnymi do ludzi wytworzonymi w wylęgarniach statku. Początkowo nie wiedzą, gdzie się znajdują ani kim są. Budzą się do życia w dramatycznych okolicznościach, osamotnieni, zmierzają przed siebie ciągnącymi się setkami metrów pustymi korytarzami. Muszą uciekać przed zabójczym zimnem, napotykając przerażające potwory, które starają się ich zabić. Spotykają się co jakiś czas, ale znacznie częściej widzą porozrywane przez potwory ciała innych ludzi, rozmaitych gatunków, kolorów, rozmiarów i budowy fizycznej.
