Akcja powieści „Prom kosmiczny 03” rozgrywa się w nieokreślonej przyszłości, na olbrzymim, lecącym przez przestrzeń kosmiczną statku. Jej bohaterowie są ludźmi albo istotami podobnymi do ludzi wytworzonymi w wylęgarniach statku. Początkowo nie wiedzą, gdzie się znajdują ani kim są. Budzą się do życia w dramatycznych okolicznościach, osamotnieni, zmierzają przed siebie ciągnącymi się setkami metrów pustymi korytarzami. Muszą uciekać przed zabójczym zimnem, napotykając przerażające potwory, które starają się ich zabić.
