    Autorka, narozená ve starém Pekingu do rodiny učenců a gurmánů, se vydala na cestu po Číně a nakonec získala tradiční klasické čínské vzdělání, než se ve věku 17 let přestěhovala do Anglie. Po absolvování umělecké školy pracovala ve filmu, ale od poloviny 70. let se začala věnovat psaní a výuce o čínské kuchyni. Svůj webový portál založila s cílem demystifikovat čínskou kuchyni a zdůraznit její spojení s historií, tradicemi a filozofií. Věří, že filozofie je základem čínského vaření, techniky poskytují strukturu a výsledné pokrmy jsou korunou této umělecké formy.
