Po jejím skončení se zhroutily odvěké říše, padly monarchie a obyvatelstvo na mnoha místech v důsledku změny státního zřízení a zeměpisných hranic zcela ztratilo národní identitu. Nestabilita nabyla institucionální podoby a nepřátelství se začalo pečlivě pěstovat. Společenské uspořádání podlehlo doslova seismickým otřesům. Mravy, vystupování, kodex chování, literatura a ostatní obory umění, vzdělání a třídní rozdělení – to vše bylo postiženo záplavou změn. Se zřetelem na všechna uvedená hlediska lze tvrdit, že dvacáté století se zrodilo v dopoledních hodinách dne 28. června roku 1914.

V časných hodinách 10. listopadu propukly ve městech, městečcích a vesnicích Třetí říše orgie koordinovaného ničení. Důsledky tohoto strašlivého výbuchu byly pro trýzněné německé Židy katastrofální. Během Křišťálové noci, noci rozbitého, skla bylo za jedinou noc zničeno víc než tisíc synagog, vypleněny desítky tisíc židovských obchodů a bytů a přes třicet tisíc židovských mužů bylo zatčeno a umístěno do koncentračních táborů. Tato noc znamenala začátek systematického vyhlazování národa, jehož kořeny se v Německu táhly až k dobám starověkého Říma, a byla strašlivou předzvěstí holocaustu, který přišel po ní.
