Soubor tří kratších dětských příběhů. Obdivovatele Plathové jistě překvapí nečekaná hravost a rozmarná potrhlost textů. Prozaický příběh Kuchyň paní Třešinkové napsala Plathová v roce 1958 pro dětský časopis, publikován byl ale poprvé až v roce 2001, tedy 38 let po autorčině dobrovolné smrti. Vypráví se v něm o kuchyňských přístrojích, jež jsou přesvědčeny, že dokážou lépe plnit úkoly svěřené jejich kolegům v kuchyni, a způsobí tím naprostý chaos. Ve veršované Knížce o postelích, poprvé vydané v roce 1976, sestavila Plathová úžasnou kolekci všemožných postelí s překvapivými, báječnými schopnostmi – dovedou kupříkladu cestovat pod vodou, plachtit vzduchem, spát pod sněhem, poskakovat či malovat. Třetí příběh o Tomášovi a jeho vytouženém hořčicově žlutém obleku pro všechny příležitosti má název Oblek, kterému nic nevadilo.

Překladatel autorčina světoznámého románu Pod skleněným zvonem (česky 1996) a její velký obdivovatel se rozhodl změřit své překladatelské síly s Janem Zábranou v její básnické tvorbě. Už několik let pracoval na výboru z básní jejích a jejího bývalého muže Teda Hughese a celá kniha měla být koncipována jako rozhovor mezi oběma svébytnými básníky. Majitelé práv však s tímto experimentem nesouhlasili, a tak vznikla kniha jiná, jen jedna strana rozhovoru, monolog bez odpovědí: vybrané básně Sylvie Plathové, s tím, že je umocní a doplní anglický originál.

Výběr z deníků originální americké básnířky z let 1950–1962 Sylvia Plathová (1932 Boston – 1963 Londýn) byla americká spisovatelka a básnířka, známá zejména díly, jako byl výjimečný román Pod skleněným zvonem, v němž mimo jiné zpracovává vlastní zkušenost s psychiatrickou léčbou, anebo dnes již kultovní básnická sbírka Ariel, kongeniálně přeložená v roce 1984 básníkem Janem Zábranou, která patří k nejslavnějším angloamerickým básnickým knihám 20. století. Její život ovlivnila brzká smrt otce, s níž se snažila celý život vypořádat. Sama přitom v průběhu let bojovala s depresí a vlastními stíny, které otiskla do uměleckého díla i osobních deníků. Výběr z nich nyní přinášíme v novém vydání. Nabízíme tak čtenářům příležitost vydat se na dobrodružnou a fascinující cestu do zákoutí autorčiny zranitelné a labilní osobnosti.
