Více o knize

Henry Worsley was a devoted husband, father, and decorated British special forces officer who held honor and sacrifice in high regard. He was also deeply obsessed with Ernest Shackleton, the legendary polar explorer who sought to reach the South Pole and cross Antarctica on foot. Though Shackleton never completed his journeys, he became renowned for rescuing his men from peril and exemplifying exceptional leadership. Worsley felt a profound connection to Shackleton's expeditions, being related to Frank Worsley, one of Shackleton's crew members, and he invested heavily in collecting artifacts from their adventures. Inspired by Shackleton's legendary skills, Worsley aimed to test his own endurance in the harshest environment on Earth. In 2008, he set out across Antarctica with two descendants of Shackleton's crew, facing extreme cold, exhaustion, and treacherous crevasses. Upon returning home, Worsley felt an irresistible urge to return. On November 13, 2015, at 55, he said goodbye to his family and embarked on his most dangerous quest: to traverse Antarctica alone. The narrative captures Worsley's extraordinary journey, illustrated with over fifty stunning photographs from both his and Shackleton's expeditions, creating a compelling tale of courage, love, and the limits of human endurance.
