Více o knize

At 17, Tara Westover entered a classroom for the first time, having grown up in a survivalist family in Idaho. Her upbringing revolved around preparing for the apocalypse, with her childhood marked by stockpiling supplies and living in isolation. Her mother, a midwife, treated injuries at home, as her father forbade any medical intervention. This seclusion meant that Tara and her siblings lacked formal education and faced unchecked violence from an older brother. Determined to learn, Tara self-educated, mastering enough math and grammar to gain admission to Brigham Young University. There, she discovered significant historical events like the Holocaust and the civil rights movement, which broadened her worldview. Her pursuit of knowledge took her across the globe, ultimately leading her to Harvard and Cambridge. This journey prompted her to question her identity and whether she could reconcile her past with her new life. The narrative explores themes of self-invention, family loyalty, and the emotional toll of breaking away from close ties. With remarkable insight, Westover presents a universal coming-of-age story that reveals the transformative power of education and the ability to view one's life from a new perspective.

Zhltnute.
