Anya von Bremzen se narodila v roce 1963. Vyrůstala v kolektivním moskevském bytě, kde osmnáct rodin sdílelo jednu kuchyň. Zpívala oslavné písně na Lenina, ve škole tajně prodávala žvýkačky Juicy Fruit a dívala se, jak její otec pálí domácí whisky.
