Přísně tajné vývojové oddělení, známé pod názvem MD 1, založil sám Winston Churchill a spadalo přímo pod něj. Během druhé světové války MD 1 vyvinulo dvacet šest nových zbraní. Churchillovy hračky -- umělé vlnolamy, samonaváděcí bomby, magnetické protitankové granáty, tanky se zesíleným pancéřováním a umělé mosty - nakonec přispěly největším dílem při vylodění v Normandii a k celému vítěznému tažení Francií, Belgií, Nizozemskem až do Německa. Není pochyb o tom, že i v tomto případě Churchillův geniální instinkt a jeho neústupnost mu pomohly druhou světovou válku vyhrát.

Formou pestré sbírky zábavných historek, výroků a neznámých faktů vyplnil autor dlouho pociťovanou mezeru v churchillovské biografii.
Faktografická publikace britského autora představuje čtenáři nacistického tyrana z pohledu, jaký v podobné literatuře rozhodně nebývá obvyklý. Podíváme se na nejrůznější stránky jeho osobnosti, o nichž mnozí zřejmě dosud neměli tušení. Dozvíme se, jaké měl vysvědčení (žádná sláva), a zjistíme, že byl malířem i básníkem. Jakým, to už můžeme sami posoudit z úryvků jeho básní. Kromě známých osobností fašistického Německa, jako byli Göring, Goebbels, Bormann a další, se setkáme také se vzpomínkami Hitlerových sekretářek, Alberta Speera a samotné Evy Braunové. Dočteme se i o dalších Hitlerových milenkách a láskách. Vzhledem k tomu, že autor je Angličan, není divu, že se věnuje také vztahu britské panovnické rodiny ke třetí říši. Můžeme být jenom rádi, že král Eduard VIII. po svém tehdy skandálním svazku s rozvedenou Američankou abdikoval! V knize se samozřejmě najde i prostor pro Hitlerův vztah k okultizmu (jeho oblíbený jasnovidec byl Žid!), pro jeho zdravotní problémy (léčené většinou šarlatánem), pro jeho svatbu na poslední chvíli a konečně i pro jeho smrt. Ale, nemylte se! Kniha diktátora v žádném případě nevynáší na piedestal, jen naznačuje, že bychom i po letech, které uplynuly od konce druhé světové války, měli vědět, jaký byl člověk, jenž tento nejhrůznější konflikt v dějinách lidstva rozpoutal.
