Jeho život je však tragický, pretože nie je naplnený osobným šťastím. Jeho snúbenica sa odmieta zaňho vydať, volí radšej smrť, neskôr sa ožení s jej matkou, ktorá však pri pôrode zomiera. Ani osud jeho dcéry nie je ľahký.
