Poutavá sbírka více než stovky zlověstných a strašidelných příběhů ze starého Edinburghu s dobovými ilustracemi tematicky navazuje na knižní řadu, v níž dosud vyšly tituly Skotské duchařské historky, Irské duchařské historky, Anglické duchařské historky a Viktoriánské duchařské historky. Pojednávají o vraždách a záhadách, duchách a upírech, zlodějích těl a upalování čarodějnic a odhalují temnou stránku edinburské historie. Sbírka byla sestavena třemi historiky, kteří pod hlavičkou Mercat Tours organizovali od roku 1985 populární noční prohlídky tajuplnými zákoutími a uličkami edinburského Starého Města, přibližovali hrůzostrašné činy hanebných lumpů, jako byli Diakon Brodie, Burke a Hare, major Weir, Agnes Fynnieová a spousta dalších, a oživovali tak jedinečnou atmosféru tohoto pamětihodného místa.

In this important and timely book Alan Wilson argues that allowing gay people to marry is a moral purpose. Wilson says: 'I asked myself "what does God want for gay people?" After re-revisiting the Bible, and more importantly getting to know gay people of all types and varying backgrounds, he decided the answer was that God wants for them the same as everyone else - flourishing faith, hope and love, involvement and inclusion.Meanwhile, from a scientific perspective, More Perfect Union? asserts that homosexuality is part of a wide range of human sexual longing and expression, not an anomaly, a sickness, not merely a lifestyle choice. The vast majority of people Wilson encountered on his journey toward being in favour of same-sex marriage were not anti-gay, were 'just trying to love their neighbour as themselves', even if, in some cases, their heads lagged behind their hearts on the issue of gay marriage. The ultimate aim of this book is to help Christians unite head and heart in a fully positive response to gay people marrying, and to enable them to wholeheartedly rejoice in such union, in doing so shaking off the hangover of years of stereotyping, fear and discrimination about gay people.

    • Habits of Luxury and Ease is unusual in that it focuses more on the technology of country houses, than on their social and architectural history.

    • In Being Interdisciplinary, Alan Wilson draws on five decades as a leading figure in urban science to set out a systems approach to interdisciplinarity for those conducting research in this and other fields. He argues that most research is interdisciplinary at base, and that a systems perspective is particularly appropriate for collaboration because it fosters an outlook that sees beyond disciplines. There is a more subtle thread, too. A systems approach enables researchers to identify the game-changers of the past as a basis for thinking outside convention, for learning how to do something new and how to be ambitious, in a nutshell how to be creative. Ultimately, the ideas presented address how to do research.0Building on this systems focus, the book first establishes the basics of interdisciplinarity. Then, by drawing on the author?s experience of doing interdisciplinary research, and working from his personal toolkit, it offers general principles and a framework from which researchers can build their own interdisciplinary toolkit, with elements ranging from explorations of game-changers in research to superconcepts. In the last section, the book tackles questions of managing and organising research from individual to institutional scales.0Alan Wilson deploys his wide experience ? researcher in urban science, university professor and vice-chancellor, civil servant and institute director ? to build the narrative. While his experience in urban science provides the illustrations, the principles apply across many research fields
