Nejúspěšnější japonský stíhací pilot druhé světové války Saburo Sakai je skvělým vypravěčem. Válku popisuje ze svého úhlu pohledu - jako supereso japonského námořního letectva, jako samuraj. Vypráví o svých vítězstvích a vítězstvích příslušníků námořních stíhacích perutí. Knihu napsal americký autor a amatérský letec Martin Caidin, na základě vlastní autobiografie Sakaie a jeho rozhovorů s novinářem Fredem Saito. Kniha kvůli prodejnosti nadsazuje počet sestřelů a některé příběhy, například o akrobatické exhibici nad nepřátelským letištěm, byly vymyšlené Caidinem. V této knize není hrdinou vzdušných bitev odvážný letec, ale letadlo. Američané ho nazvali Zero. Letouny Mitsubishi s označením A6M v různých vývojových úpravách tvořily po celou válku největší část japonského letectva. A jak američtí odborníci a piloti japonský stroj zprvu podcenili, brzy pochopili, že hodnota Zera je nesmírně vysoká.

Autor Martin Caidin napsal knihu s válečnou tematikou nazvanou Noc kdy zemřel Hamburk. Do roku 1943 odolal Hamburk, druhé největší město nacistického Německa, 137 náletům především díky skvěle organizovanému systému civilní obrany. A byl připraven čelit dalším bombovým útokům. Pak ale bombardéry zaútočily s nebývalou razancí znovu a během 90 minut vzplála ohnivá bouře. Byl to rozpoutaný živel, který zasáhl území o rozloze tisíců akrů města a nemilosrdně je bičoval ohněm.
