Peter Christen Asbjørnsen byl norský spisovatel a vědec, který spolu s Jørgenem Engebretsenem Moeem sbíral norské lidové pohádky. Jejich celoživotní dílo bylo natolik úzce spojené, že jejich sbírky lidových pohádek jsou běžně uváděny pouze jako „Asbjørnsen a Moe“.
Svazek norských pohádek obsahuje všechny pohádky, jež po vzoru bratří Grimmů v 19. století vydali sběratelé Peter Christen Asbjornsen a Jorgen Moe. Všem sto devatenácti pohádkám je v tomto českém překladu ponechán jejich původní rozsah i osobitý styl.
