Love is the most powerful emotion in the universe. It is the only power capable of both healing and damaging simultaneously. Thus giving your love to someone can be both a special gift and a curse. We all take for granted those who love us most, not realizing how life is a series of moments stitched together by the very thin threads of commitment. If we fail to nurture love by returning love, commitment becomes strained, and eventually weakens and breaks. The collateral damage leaves us with vacant homes, empty picture frames and unfulfilled promises. Somehow we must find the strength to sort through the scattered emotions and piece together a broken heart. Chasing Reciprocity is an acknowledgement of the difficulty that lovers face in their journey for passion and the boundless reward when true love is found. The collection of poems conveys the ups and downs of feelings, the euphoria and excitement of new love and the inner turmoil and conflict of learning to trust and love again.

The impact of this struggle has splintered our communities, turning what was once a collective future into the pursuit of individual endeavors. How Deep Is Drowning is a poetic commentary on the journey from the darkness of slavery, through the perils of segregation, to the continuous challenges facing a mosaic America. Linking the key events of yesteryear to the current events of today, each poem serves as a call to action for the removal of barriers and falsehoods dividing our nation.
