Další ze série kriminálních příběhů, v nichž hlavní vyšetřovatelkou je samotná Jane Austenová, se odehrává v přímořském letovisku Lyme Regis, kam se na ozdravný pobyt vypraví rodina Austenových. Příjezd je však poznamenán nešťastnou příhodou. Jejich kočár se převrátí a oni jsou nuceni vyhledat útočiště na blízkém panství. Právě zde se Jane poprvé setká s tajemným a nespoutaným, zároveň však velmi přitažlivým panem Geoffreyem Sidmouthem. In the early years of the 20th century, a group of young artists including Ernst Kirchner, Vassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc, liberated themselves from traditional representation by using distortion and vibrant, unrealistic colour in their painting. Eroticism became a tool for exposing the lies and decadence of society, whilst motifs borrowed from African, Oceanic and Buddhist art further questioned bourgeois culture. Later, the cruelty of World War I was reflected violently in the work of Max Beckmann, Otto Dix and George Grosz. In light of an exhibition at the Palazzo Grassi, Venice, this text re-evaluates the range of approaches taken by these radical artists, presenting more than 400 of their works and accompanying essays by art historians. Organized by theme, they describe the historical background of Expressionism and the two main groups Die Brucke and Der Blaue Reiter, looking at the links with Romanticism and Futurism, iconography, supporters, critics, collectors and theory. The main part of the book comprises the works themselves, each accompanied by text documenting their meaning and history. Artist's biographies are also provided.
Jasper Johns to Jeff Four Decades of Art from the Broad Collections, organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), is the first large-scale exhibition of the Broads' achievement, presenting more than 100 works of art from these two significant collections. The show highlights American artists whose paintings, sculptures, and photographs the Broads have acquired in depth, among them Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein, Cindy Sherman, and Cy Twombly, Johns, Koons, and the Los Angeles artists John Baldessari, Sharon Lockhart, Charles Ray, Ed Ruscha, and Robert Therrien. German artists such as George Baselitz and Anselm Kiefer are also represented. Together, these works form an invaluable record of the artistic achievements of the past forty years.This catalogue, published in conjunction with the exhibition, illustrates the objects in the exhibition as well as several related works from the Broad collections. The accompanying texts include an interview with Eli and Edythe Broad by exhibition curators Stephanie Barron and Lynn Zelevansky, as well as essays by art historians Thomas Crow, Sabine Eckmann, Joanne Heyler, and Pepe Karmel, which place the works in critical and historical context.
