War came to the until then neutral country of The Netherlands. They were brutal years that left an everlasting scar on the country's people and psyche. Those who lived through the war and survived had to deal with huge losses and the aftermath of war. The physical scars on the country could be fixed by rebuilding, the mental scars could be covered over, however always remained in The Shadow of my life.
