Text totiž obsahuje téměř všechny myslitelné řečnické figury a odráží tak Perecovu snahu vyčerpat v rámci díla jisté kombinační možnosti.

Život návod k použití (1978) je nejen vrcholným dílem Georgese Pereca, ale i jednou z nejúchvatnějších a při svém záměrném omezení také nejkomplexnějších knih světové literatury 20. století – pro svou šíři, uspořádání, množství informací a odkazů, humornou vynalézavost, ironii, jež ji prostupuje, a vytříbenou uměleckou formu bývá označována za "barokní realismus hraničící s burleskou". Je vesmírem zhuštěným do rozměru domu, zbaveného přední fasády, v jehož útrobách se odehrávají příběhy pestrého panoptika obyvatel. Příběh mladého Pařížana, neúnavného nočního chodce městem spletitých ulic, velkých bulvárů a rozbitých předměstí, Muž, který spí (1967) napsal Georges Perec jako líčení osobní krize, jejíž řešení tehdy spatřoval v lhostejnosti a v netečném pozorovatelství. Skutečnost osobní proměny, v níž je nakonec odumření a lhostejný klid jen jednou z etap, zachytil s velkou jazykovou vytříbeností a bravurou.

Autor fenomenálního románu Život návod k použití zkoumá možnosti psaní a četby, meze čitelnosti. Podobně jako v jiných dílech si Perec stanovil nějaký formální systém, v jehož rámci se pohybuje. V tomto případě jde o organizační schéma podniku, jehož plánek je připojen v úvodu knihy. Perec rozebírá všechny možné (a často zhola nemožné) eventuality, jež mohou nastat ve chvíli, kdy úředník jde požádat svého šéfa o zvýšení platu. Na základě různých hypotéz, co v okamžiku rozhodnutí a posléze na dotyčného čeká, vzniká komplikovaný příběh plný odboček, návratů, výčtů všemožných překážek, kdy se perspektiva možného setkání s šéfem stává stále méně pravděpodobnou.

Satirický, společensky angažovaný román se rozvíjí v pásmu reálném a fantastickém. Líčí příběh muže, který si ze vzpomínek utváří obraz dětství poznamenaného druhou světovou válkou, a přibližuje život na ostrově W, který se postupně stává apokalyptickou vizí totalitní nelidské společnosti.

Perecův knižní debut Věci (1965) je příběhem mladého páru, jehož vztah ke světu se uskutečňuje prostřednictvím vlastnění, spotřebou, nakupováním a pořizováním uměleckých předmětů, nábytku a pomůcek každodenního života. Jérôme a Sylvie se ocitají ve vleku touhy po luxusním žití, k němuž jim však jakožto příslušníkům střední třídy chybějí prostředky. Próza je psána po vzoru formalizovaného vyjadřování sociologických příruček a nezaujatého stylu literatury faktu. Třebaže sám Perec odmítal, že by byla odsouzením konzumní společnosti, lze ji chápat jako studii vztahu mezi věcmi, které tato společnost produkuje, a štěstím, které uvnitř ní zůstává možností.

Ce livre explore une idée à la fois monstrueuse et exaltante. L'auteur a sélectionné à Paris douze lieux significatifs, chacun lié à des souvenirs ou événements marquants de sa vie. Chaque mois, il décrit deux de ces lieux : d'abord sur place, de manière neutre, en notant les magasins, l'architecture, et des micro-événements (comme une voiture de pompiers ou une dame attachant son chien), puis ailleurs, en évoquant les souvenirs et les personnes qui y sont associées. Chaque texte est ensuite enfermé dans une enveloppe scellée à la cire. Après un an, il aura décrit tous ses lieux deux fois, une fois en mémoire, une fois en observation réelle, et il poursuivra ce processus pendant douze ans, de janvier 1969 à décembre 1980. À la fin, il ouvrira les 288 enveloppes. Le résultat final, bien qu'incertain, devrait révéler le vieillissement des lieux, de son écriture et de ses souvenirs. Le temps, qui structure ce projet, devient essentiel, transformant l'écriture d'un temps mort en une mesure du temps qui s'écoule. Ce livre n'est pas simplement une restitution du passé, mais une réflexion profonde sur le temps et l'écriture.

Im Sommer 1955 hat er sich an einem ersten Buch versucht, dessen Text bis heute verschollen ist, im Sommer 1956 eine Psychoanalyse begonnen. Im Sommer 1957 fährt er nach Jugoslawien, wo er in wenigen Wochen seinen zweiten größeren Text schreibt. Zurück in Paris, redigiert er in aller Eile das Manuskript, diktiert es einer Schulfreundin, schickt es an Verlage, die es aber allesamt ablehnen, sodass er es einem Belgrader Malerfreund überlässt. In dem schließlich wiedergefundenen und hier erstmals auf Deutsch publizierten Text begegnen wir einer Literatur zwischen jugendlichem Drang, ausgeprägtem Erzähltalent und reifendem Stilwillen: Ein amouröses Dreieck und weltgeschichtliche Katastrophe konvergieren in einer Erzählung, hinter der sich bereits die zentralen Motive von Perecs späterem Werk abzeichnen.

Zanim to następuje, wysyła intrygujący liścik do przyjaciół, informując ich o swoim zniknięciu. Rozpoczynają oni poszukiwania, lecz wkrótce sami zaczynają znikać w niejasnych okolicznościach, pod wpływem straszliwej klątwy. Ta ponad 300-stronicowa powieść detektywistyczna to najdłuższy lipogram na świecie, w którym autor ani razu nie używa litery E, mimo że jest ona wszechobecna w aluzjach i odniesieniach.
