Tísnivé bezčasí, prázdnotu a beznaděj v životech posledních několika obyvatel opuštěné vesnice rozvíří příchod dvou bývalých rodáků, které nikdo nečekal. Kdesi v maďarské pustě žije v chátrající nevlídné vsi, v nevlídném počasí a nevlídné neurčité době (i když v současných kulisách) několik posledních obyvatel. Jejich životy, zabředlé do depresivního plesnivého bezčasí a prázdna, jsou na sobě vzájemně závislé, všichni se sledují, dokonale se znají a jsou plni zloby nebo alespoň nelásky - nebo naopak zcela prázdní. Příchod dvou bývalých obyvatel, kteří podle dosavadních zpráv měli být mrtvi, do této nehybnosti zasáhne, roztočí kolotoč vztahů a dějů, ale z beznaděje nikoho z protagonistů nevyvede. Precizní sondy do myslí a duší jednotlivých postav podané košatým knižním stylem v kontrastu se zcela hovorovým jazykem dialogů vytvářejí velmi sugestivní, působivý a silně depresivní celek. Brilantní text neposkytne oddech a důsledně nikde nenabízí ani řádku pozitivní emoce, vztahu nebo alespoň vzhledu krajiny.

Netradiční román maďarského autora, který se nechal inspirovat klasickou japonskou literaturou. Hlavní hrdina, vnuk prince Gendžiho, se vydává hledat ideální a pravděpodobně neexistující zahradu, kterou dvakrát nikdo neviděl. Román je komplikovaným podobenstvím o smyslu hledání - v tomto případě ideální zahrady - která, jak hlavní hrdina doufá, mu přinese pravé poznání bytí. Text je rozčleněn do jednotlivých kapitol, které jsou právě po vzoru japonské literatury zpracovány v rytmu japonských básní, už sám název je poetickou hříčkou - nemluvě o tom, že má svou jasnou symboliku vztahující se k buddhistickým klášterům.
