Tři přednášky, které se vztahují k jediné otázce, otázce zdůvodnitelnosti našich soudů. Autorovy úvahy si nečiní nárok být jednotnou teorií, nýbrž mají předběžný problémový charakter. Záměrem první přednášky je především vyjasnění pojmu morálky a otázky, co lze zdůvodněním morálních soudů vůbec rozumět. V druhé přednášce se autor věnuje tomu, zda a jak může reflexi historických podmínek vlastních morálních přesvědčení připadnout pozitivní funkce pro zdůvodnění morálních soudů. K této otázce se vrací podrobněji i v poslední, třetí části.

In diesem Band sind die wichtigsten Vorträge und Aufsätze versammelt, die Ernst Tugendhat in den letzten Jahren geschrieben hat. Im Mittelpunkt stehen die Moral und das Problem ihrer Begründbarkeit. Dabei geht es sowohl um die theoretischen Grundlagen der Moralphilosophie als auch um konkrete Fragen, wie etwa die Menschenrechte, die Euthanasie oder aber die Positionen und das Potential der Evolutionstheorie. So ergeben sich ungewohnte Perspektiven auf klassische Fragen. Ein anderer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Auseinandersetzung mit Aristoteles, Nietzsche und Heidegger, deren theoretische Konzepte auch in ihrer Anwendung verfolgt und problematisiert werden. Letzteres gilt besonders für Nietzsches Antiegalitarismus, dessen Einfluß auf Hitler untersucht wird. Ernst Tugendhat war Professor für Philosophie an der Freien Universität Berlin.
