Swą popularność zawdzięcza tyleż prostocie formy i przystępności języka, co kompetencji i trafności wykładu. Zapewne dlatego sięgają po niego chętnie zarówno adepci biblistyki, jak i laicy poszukujący głębszego zrozumienia Pisma Świętego. To szczególne wprowadzenie do Biblii obejmuje trzy części: w pierwszej omówione są kwestie objawienia, natchnienia, prawdy biblijnej, kanonu, interpretacji form literackich, a także zarys historii czasów Starego i Nowego Testamentu; w części drugiej znajdują się informacje o poszczególnych księgach starotestamentowych, a w specjalnym dodatku poruszone są kwestie znaczenia, autorytetu i chrześcijańskiej interpretacji Starego Testamentu; część trzecią stanowią komentarze do ksiąg Nowego Testamentu. „Klucz” nie oznacza tu bynajmniej klucza cudownego, którego użycie w jednej chwili i bez wysiłku uprzystępniłoby czytającemu stronnice Biblii. Nie chodzi też o klucz do jakiegoś szyfru, którego działanie mogłoby się opierać na podobnych zasadach. Z treści książki wynika, że zarówno sama Biblia, jak i to wszystko, co nazywamy światem Biblii, wymagają całego pęczka kluczy i kluczyków, by otworzyć przed czytelnikiem tajniki spraw, bez znajomości których nie ma poznanie Biblii. Harrington pragnie prowadzić czytającego przez labirynt takich właśnie problemów i spraw otwierających jedne po drugich wrota – i w tym sensie tytuł książki, „Klucz do Biblii”, jest uzasadniony.
