Zdlouhavý proces vyhoření probíhá ve fázích a projevuje se tělesnými i emocionálními příznaky a vzorci chování, které jsou u každého jedince rozdílné. Obecně je pro vyhoření příznačná ztráta efektivity práce a motivace, odmítavý postoj vůči klientům a vykonávané práci. Problémy spojené s vyhořením vedou především k rozčarování. Vyhoření není pouze osobní záležitostí postiženého, neboť podstatně narušuje pracovní okolí – klienty, jež sociální pracovník označil jako beznadějné, a v neposlední řadě funkčnost dané sociální instituce. Istifan Maroon hledá příčiny vyhoření a nabízí strategie i modely k jeho prevenci i překonání. Poukazuje na použitelné zásahy a terapeutické metody pro sociální pracovníky v různých etapách profesního vývoje. Hlavní pozornost věnuje potenciálním podpůrným strukturám na pracovišti a v soukromém životě postižených. Sociální pracovníci by měli umět rozpoznat jednotlivé prvky, fáze, dynamiku multidimenzionálního procesu, jímž vyhoření je. Text je proto věnován prevenci, podpoře, systémům měření, diagnostice i supervizi včetně kazuistik. Dr. Istifan Maroon je certifikovaným supervizorem pro sociální práci a docentem na Pedagogické vysoké škole ve Freiburgu.

Publikace je určena pedagogům, kteří v rámci terciálního vzdělávání sociálních pracovníků, případně sociálních pedagogů organizují odborné praxe. Opírá se o zkušenost prověřenou na izraelských univerzitách. V úvodu podává nutné teoretické minimum týkající se supervize obecně, jejího zaměření a cílů. Jádrem publikace jsou kapitoly věnované organizaci terénního vzdělávání budoucích sociálních pracovníků a procesu učení. V závěrečné části skript jsou podrobně popsány nástroje hodnotící průběh a efekt supervize.

Das Studium der Sozialen Arbeit geht über zwei sich ergänzende Wege: theoretisches und praktisches Lernen. Ersteres vermittelt die theoretischen Grundlagen für eine Intervention. Vor Ort sollen die Studenten dann die Theorie in der Praxis erproben, Fähigkeiten entwickeln und Kompetenz zeigen. Sie sollen lernen, ihre Arbeit einzuschätzen und den Grundstein für selbständiges Arbeiten und für ihr berufliches Wissen legen. Der Supervisor nimmt dabei eine zentrale Rolle ein. Er soll vermitteln, wie man eine anstehende Aufgabe in ihrem gesamten Umfang unter Kontrolle hält, er soll das selbständige Denken und Entscheiden der Studenten und die Reflektion des Erreichten unterstützen. Das Buch erläutert die verschiedenen Phasen dieses Supervisionsprozesses, zeigt Inhalte der Supervision auf und beschreibt ein mehrstufiges, an das Erfahrungsniveau angepasstes Evaluationssystem für die praktische Arbeit.

Der langwierige und sich phasenweise vollziehende Prozess des Burnout findet in individuell unterschiedlichen physischen und emotionalen Symptomen und Verhaltensmustern Ausdruck. Allgemein gekennzeichnet ist er durch den Verlust von Arbeitseffizienz und Motivation, der Sozialarbeiter entwickelt eine zynische und abweisende Grundstimmung seinen Klienten, aber auch der eigenen Arbeit gegenüber. Die mit Burnout verbundenen Probleme führen besonders zur Desillusionierung. Deshalb ist der Zustand des „Ausgebranntseins“ nicht nur eine persönliche Angelegenheit des Betroffenen, sondern beeinträchtigt auch maßgeblich das berufliche Umfeld: die von ihm als hoffnungslos etikettierten Mandanten und damit nicht zuletzt die Funktionalität der jeweiligen sozialen Institution. Istifan Maroon sucht in seiner Studie nach Ursachen für dieses Phänomen und bietet Strategien und Modelle, um es zu behandeln oder sogar zu verhindern. Er zeigt Interventionsmöglichkeiten und Behandlungsmethoden für die Bedürfnisse von Sozialarbeitern in den unterschiedlichen Phasen ihrer beruflichen Entwicklung auf. Dabei liegt sein Hauptaugenmerk auf potenziellen Unterstützungssystemen am Arbeitsplatz und im privaten Bereich der Betroffenen.
