NFC ist eine systematische Weiterentwicklung von kontaktloser Smartcard- und Reader-Technologie. Das Buch "Anwendungen und Technik von NFC" ist das Standardwerk zur NFC-Technologie. Es bietet einen umfassenden Überblick über Grundlagen, Technik und Anwendungszenarien von NFC. Für Praxis und Ausbildung kann es sowohl als Einführung sowie als Grundlagen- und Nachschlagewerk dienen. Die Autoren stellen anhand der Grundlagen und der Technik die NFC-Technologie und die klassische RFID-Technologie einander gegenüber. Das Bewusstsein der Studenten ist zwar in der Vergangenheit vielfach beschrieben, gedeutet und analysiert worden, aber überraschenderweise nur selten im Zusammenhang mit den sozialen Strukturen und gesellschaftlichen Funktionen der Universität. Die vorliegende Arbeit möchte diese Lücke füllen, indem sie Längsschnittdaten aus einem internationalen Hochschulforschungsprojekt mit Ansätzen zu einer Theorie der Universität zu verbinden versucht. Thematisch konzentriert sie sich dabei auf Vorstellungen der Studenten zu Wissenschaft und Beruf. Dabei kann nachgewiesen werden, dass deren Entwicklung vom jeweiligen historischen Verhältnis von Universität und Gesellschaft abhängig ist.

This book is about the impact of the EU on local issues, particularly in the pre-accession phase. It analyses and discusses contending interests and aspirations in culture, education, communication and tourism in parts of former Yugoslavia. Various contributions create a joint story of EU interactions with accession states, having both positive and negative impacts. The Authors provide perspectives on the bearing of EU accession on culture, primarily in terms of risk perception, on education as key facilitator of knowledge, on the media, which serve as a basis for creating public opinion, and tourism as an industry that has strongly transformed as a result of EU enlargements. All contributions together provide an overview of what is and what might be as a result of EU requirements. In contrast to elites on both sides, who usually paint EU membership in the brightest colours, the closer look reveals more ambiguous processes and attitudes.

This book provides reflections on and visions of the European Union and its future. The latter is a central concern that threads through all chapters and contributions, thereby taking a critical stance on conventional theories and main stream views of European integration. Different developmental scenarios and dimensions of the EU project are discussed. The authors approach the question of «future» from a variety of perspectives and theoretical convictions. Accordingly, the results portray a number of possibilities of how Europe could look in two or three decades, depending on the underlying assumptions of the different analysis. The European Union as seen through this book is not an entity carved in stone, but a contingent political process with open – although not random – outcomes.

This book investigates the European Union as an object of the social sciences. Although its main direction is to discuss different dimensions of the EU project and the direction of its development, it also reflects the state of the social sciences in this development. Accordingly, the book is structured to take into consideration «modernist», «critical» and «culturalist» perspectives. Given this frame the contributions by individual authors deliver a wide range of insights into the EU project, insights which often point to aspects hidden, rarely mentioned or not at all recognized in the official discourse about the EU. Besides, attention is raised for the precarious cognitive situation of the social sciences in times of rapid societal transformation.

«Opening of the East», transformation of the communist countries and membership in the European Union produce new opportunities and risks for the regions of Europe. A special dimension in this context is cross-border co-operation. A number of developments have taken place in recent decades in this respect, but many questions are still open or remain ambiguous. This book discusses this situation in a wider societal context and with a special focus on the Alps-Adriatic territory. Special attention is given to the idea of a «Europe of Regions» and its various realisations, be it the construct of Euroregion or diverse European Union policies. If one should want to draw a general conclusion from this book then this might be that, at the brink of the 21st Century, Europe is again in a process where the cards between central powers and regions are being reshuffled.
