Martin Rhonheimer wurde 1950 in Zürich geboren. An der dortigen Universität studierte er Geschichte, Philosophie und politische Wissenschaft. Er promovierte bei Hermann Lübbe, dessen Assistent er von 1972-1978 war. Seit 1974 gehört er dem Opus Dei an. Nach dem Studium der Theologie in Rom wurde er 1983 von Johannes Paul II. zum Priester geweiht. Seit 1990 lehrt er als Professor für Ethik und politische Philosophie an der Philosophischen Fakultät der Päpstlichen Universität Santa Croce in Rom und widmet sich zusätzlich zu seiner akademischen und publizistischen Arbeit pastoralen Aufgaben im Rahmen des Opus Dei.
