The speakers of the 2015 edition of the Forum all showed a particular interest in interdisciplinary research and training. The representatives of translation industry, international and national entities and organisations, professional associations, trainers and researchers offered deep insights into their everyday work, displaying all the problems encountered and solutions found. One of the main themes was also the Silk Road Project and its multifaceted approaches – linguistic, cultural and economic – with all its drawbacks, pitfalls and challenges. In the section Transnational Private Public Partnerships the speakers stressed the importance of a global network of quality oriented partners. Interdisciplinary highlights were speakers from other disciplines who addressed in their speeches problems concerning world economy and science, which are of vital importance to all major actors.

The United Nations operates in six languages, necessitating translators with high translation competence to navigate its complex environment. There is an increasing demand for qualified translators proficient in Arabic, Chinese, and Russian, as the UN's language services are highly centralized while university systems are diverse and decentralized. This disparity has made effective collaboration between CIUTI institutes and the UN a priority. The challenge lies in how universities can better train translators to meet the specific needs of the UN, especially as many vacancies arise. The CIUTI Forum, held in January 2007 at the UN in Geneva, focused on the evolving language needs of the organization. Key issues addressed included the scarcity of certain language combinations and the specific training required for UN purposes. Contributors discussed various strategies to align the training provided by institutions with the UN's language service needs, emphasizing the importance of cultural communication across all disciplines. The forum highlighted two main axes of communication: internal communication among experts and external communication with the general public, underscoring the necessity for effective communicative efficiency in translator training.

Notre époque se caractérise d’une part par l’éclatement des domaines économiques, financiers et technologiques et, d’autre part, par une fragmentation culturelle grandissante ayant pour résultat une perception et un maintien plus poussés des différences culturelles.L’accent mis de nos jours sur les aspects culturels conduit bien souvent à des malentendus et empêche de ce fait, dans de nombreux cas, la compréhension qui est sensée être établie. Dans ce contexte, la communication interculturelle prend une importance grandissante et ce, dans quasi tous les domaines. Traducteurs et interprètes peuvent alors pleinement jouer leur rôle de médiateurs dès lors qu’ils possèdent une formation professionnelle et académique adéquate qui doit obligatoirement tenir compte de ces nouvelles données.Dans le cadre du Forum de la CIUTI de 2005, les différents aspects du choc des civilisations, tel que Huntington (1996) l’a décrit, et du rôle des traducteurs et interprètes dans la triade « culture, communication et traduction », sont examinés dans quatre volets différents. Le multiculturalisme en tant que défi à la communication, la diversité culturelle et la paix, ou encore à la mondialisation culturelle avec ses défis et ses perspectives y jouent un rôle prépondérant.
