Aus Anlass seines 65. Geburtstages sind in dieser Festschrift für Rupert Windisch insgesamt 15 Beiträge von Freunden, Wegbegleitern, Doktoranden und Kollegen zusammengetragen worden, die in vielfältiger Weise mit dem akademischen Leben des Jubilars verbunden sind. Die Beiträge reichen von Neubetrachtungen der Rolle des Staates in der Finanzwissenschaft in Gegenwart und Geschichte bis hin zur Spieltheorie und der Bedeutung neuerer technischer Entwicklungen im Gesundheitswesen und des computergestützten Handels. Weitere Themenbereiche sind die Perspektiven einer neoliberalen Umweltpolitik, die Relevanz von Marktzutrittsbeschränkungen und Regulierungen sowie die Rolle von Unsicherheiten in der Präferenzmessung. Auch die Frage von Ungleichheit und räumlicher Evolution wird diskutiert. Der Band demonstriert damit nicht nur das breite Spektrum des wissenschaftlichen Interesses des Jubilars, sondern bietet auch einen Einblick in die Vielfältigkeit der Finanzwissenschaft, zu der Rupert Windisch aktiv beigetragen hat.

Recent developments in economics have gone from the recognition of the importance of innovation for growth and the exploration of innovation mechanisms to the incorporation of the results of the previous research into economic models. An important lesson to be drawn from all this research is that a purely macro-based analysis of growth is not enough. The various mechanisms of innovation creation and diffusion, the importance of agent heterogeneity, of market selection processes, of the internal organization of the firm and of organizational routines, and the obsolescence and the consequent emergence of new types of capital goods are a few examples of micro-economic phenomena that contribute decisively to macro-economic development. The papers in this volume approach those issues from a Schumpeterian point of view and tackle issues like the growing importance of knowledge and human capital; increasing returns and path dependence; the role of variety in economic growth; competition and industry evolution.

Dieses Buch führt mikroökonomisch fundiert in die Produktivitäts- und Effizienzanalyse ein und zeigt, wie man auch ohne apriori Kenntnis der Produktionsfunktion zu Aussagen über die produktive Effizienz kommen kann. Darauf aufbauend wird der Ansatz der nichtparametrischen Frontierfunktionsanalyse vorgestellt und über verschiedene Schritte erweitert. Diese Schritte umfassen die Analyse verschiedener Formen variabler Skalenerträge und die Ermittlung der produktivsten Unternehmensgröße. Mit dem Einbezug von Preisinformationen kann die allokative Ineffizienz, die aus Fehlanpassung an die Faktorpreise resultiert, zusätzlich zur technischen Ineffizienz berechnet werden. Die Erweiterung um die dynamische Analyse erlaubt eine Aufteilung der Produktivitätsveränderung in einen Teil, der auf Verminderung (oder Vergrößerung) des ineffizienten Einsatzes von Produktionsfaktoren beruht, und einen Teil, der die Wirkungen des technischen Forschritts erfasst.

The 10th International Joseph A. Schumpeter Society Conference, held from June 9th–12th, 2004, at Università Luigi Bocconi in Milan, focused on the dynamics of industries shaped by innovation and structural transformation. These phenomena are central to Schumpeter’s work, and examining these endogenously created modes of change is a significant aspect of his legacy. The Schumpeterian approach to economic dynamics influences both evolutionary and neoclassical theories. This book presents research within the Schumpeterian and evolutionary framework of industrial dynamics and industry evolution. It emphasizes how industries evolve and alter their structures over time, influenced by knowledge, technologies, actor capabilities and incentives, new and existing products and processes, and institutions. The concept of structure and structural change extends beyond traditional market structure views, encompassing the elements and relationships among actors, knowledge, and technologies that drive innovation and significantly impact economic performance within an industry. The discussions highlight the complexity of these interactions and their implications for understanding industrial dynamics in a rapidly changing economic landscape.

This volume contains a collection of papers concerned with Schumpeterian perspectives on entrepreneurship, the New Economy and public policy. Those topics are firmly rooted in the more general discussion of technological change, industry evolution, industrial organization, public policy, and economic growth. These research branches have shown an increasing specialization during the last decades. A connecting principle nevertheless is the Schumpeterian approach on the one hand, but also the principles of evolutionary economics on the other hand. The various contributions of this volume demonstrate the high relevance and thought-provoking nature of Schumpeterian and Evolutionary Economics and its policy relevance

Innovationen und die Fähigkeit, Innovationen effizient zu entwickeln haben für die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit von Unternehmen und Regionen bzw. Nationen eine herausragende Bedeutung. Die in diesem Buch enthaltenen theoretischen Beiträge sowie die dokumentierten quantitativen und qualitativen empirischen Studien sollten einen guten Einblick in die Thematik im Allgemeinen sowie die Strukturen und deren Entwicklung in der Region Jena im Speziellen bieten. Davon ausgehend sollte es möglich sein, Aktivitäten zu formulieren und umzusetzen, welche die aufgezeigte Entwicklung der Region Jena bzw. von regionalen Innovationssystemen im Allgemeinen weiter fördern.

This book addresses central issues in evolutionary and Schumpeterian accounts of industrial competition, learning, and innovation. It contains a collection of twelve papers which are oriented toward exploring methodological issues in evolutionary and related scholarship. Reflecting the diversity of work in evolutionary scholarship, a range of methodologies are employed in the papers, including simulation, experiments, and econometric analysis. Some of the papers use well established models to takle new questions and problems. Others introduce entirely new approaches, which the authors indicate are still in a state of infancy and await further development. The collection attempts to raise even more interest in evolutionary economics, to provide some suggestions for future research directions, and to initiate a lively discussion of the issues raised.
