Představuje zvláštní druh reportáže, založené na vzpomínkách přímých účastníků bitvy na pobřežích Normandie 6. června 1944 - v den vylodění spojeneckých armád. Cornelius Ryan se na tuto událost dívá očima roku 1959, kdy knihu vydal.
