V překladu a s úvodní studií brněnského docenta filosofie Ivana Hodovského se do rukou našich čtenářů dostává dosud u nás nepřeložené pozdní dílo význačného německého filosofa meziválečného období Filosofický pohled na svět, doplněné o několik studií především z oblasti sociální filosofie. Jedna z nich zaujme českého čtenáře především, neboť v ní se M. Scheler zabývá rozborem právě vyšlého díla T. G. Masaryka Rusko a Evropa. Scheler náleží spolu s Husserlem a Heideggerem k trojici nejvýznačnějších německých myslitelů své doby a ve srovnání s nimi vyznačuje se jeho myšlení silným vlivem náboženství a zaměřením na problémy filosofické antropologie.

Představitel filosofické antropologie a fenomenologické filosofie se snaží dobrat toho, co tvoří podstatné stránky nejen lidské bytosti, ale bytí vůbec. Na rozdíl od svého učitele E. Husserla, u něhož podstaty jsou očistěné fenomény, považuje fenomén za způsob projevu absolutna. Člověk jepovolán realizovat rozumem pochopitelné, hodnotné, v sobě samém nerozpolcené universum. Spis se zabývá ideami ordo amoris a lásky k bytí, dále aktivním úsilím našeho centra bytí o ideální požadavek deitatis. Ukazuje, že fyziologický a psychický proces se liší pouze fenomenálně, že jsou amechanické, teleoklinní a na celistvost zaměřené.

Čtyři původně samostatné eseje (Láska a poznání, Ordo amoris, O smyslu utrpení, Smrt a život po smrti), z nichž je tato knížka složena, vznikaly nebo byly poprvé vydány mezi roky 1913–1917. Autor se noří do souvislostí mezi láskou a poznáváním, vyhlašuje „ordo amoris“ za jádro světového řádu, snaží se vyslovit smysl utrpení, které člověk ve světě zakouší, a rozebírá pojetí lidské konečnosti a kontinuity bytí za účasti náboženské víry. 33-344-71
