Mit der Ausrichtung auf „eroberte Eroberer“ konzentriert sich diese Studie auf paradoxe Denkfiguren des Widerspruchs und der gebrochenen Perspektive, die hier erstmals komparativisch umfassend und detailliert zugleich anhand neuerer und neuester spanischer und lateinamerikanischer Romane erarbeitet werden. Der Revolutionsroman emanzipiert sich von dem zur Legitimation einer faktischen Einparteienherrschaft aufgebauten offiziellen Mythos einer erfolgreichen und bis heute unter der PRI andauernden Revolution bereits in den zwanziger Jahren. Diese Leistung ist umso beachtenwerter, als die internationale Geschichtsschreibung noch bis zum Tlateloco-Massaker (1968) weitestgehend dem offiziellen Diskurs folgt und die Korrumpierungsangebote von Seiten der Regierung so manchen Romancier, u. a. die hier behandelten Autoren Guzmán, Yáñez und Rulfo, nachträglich zu einer Mitarbeit im System verleiten.
