Michael Walker’s Laurel Canyon presents the inside story of the once hottest rock and roll neighborhood in LA.In the late sixties and early seventies, an impromptu collection of musicians colonized a eucalyptus-scented canyon deep in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles and melded folk, rock, and savvy American pop into a sound that conquered the world as thoroughly as the songs of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones had before them. Thirty years later, the music made in Laurel Canyon continues to pour from radios, iPods, and concert stages around the world. During the canyon's golden era, the musicians who lived and worked there scored dozens of landmark hits, from "California Dreamin'" to " Judy Blue Eyes" to "It's Too Late," selling tens of millions of records and resetting the thermostat of pop culture. In Laurel Canyon , veteran journalist Michael Walker tells the inside story of this unprecedented gathering of some of the baby boomer's leading musical lights―including Joni Mitchell; Jim Morrison; Crosby, Stills, and Nash; John Mayall; the Mamas and the Papas; Carole King; the Eagles; and Frank Zappa, to name just a few―who turned Los Angeles into the music capital of the world and forever changed the way popular music is recorded, marketed, and consumed .
Francesco Canova da Milano (also known as "Il Divino", (1497 -1543) was an Italian lutenist and composer born in Monza, a small city some 15 km north-northeast of Milan. Da Milano worked for the papal court for almost all of his career. Da Milano was heralded throughout Europe as the foremost lute composer of his time And he was at the forefront of the musicians who established the lute as a vehicle for polyphonic composition in the early 16th century of the Italian Renaissance. His music represents the transition from the loose improvisational style of his predecessors to the more refined polyphonic textures of later lute music. I think it was Maxim Gorky (lower depths) who once said that laughter not only opens the mouth to laugh but also opens the mind to thought. In this book, there are many poems that give that food for thought, for consideration and debate, but I have added a humorous bent on much of the material, for as in my case at least, humour is a good, strong tool in dealing in many cases of diversity. As for the rest of the book, well, it's a mixture really with funny poems, well, just for the sake of a laugh.

(condensed from the Foreword) The Title: Before a military headquarters sends a message to one of its units, it encrypts the message so that only friendly forces with the key to the code can decipher it. When someone else finds out how the code works, he or she is said to have broken the code. For many beginners the computer instruction books seem to be in code. The title of this book, Break'n Windows, tells the novice that the code has been broken and that this reference manual can be readily understood. The reason this manual was written: This manual was initially developed for the purpose of giving the author quick and easy directions for common computer operations. Unlike many children, he does not remember each simple routine as he first learns it. He owns a number of computer books, but he is too impatient to wade through six pages of text to locate a few simple directions. He wanted a book from which he could get the information quickly and easily. When friends learned about his simpler way, they insisted that he share his manual with them. The scope of this manual: This work is not meant to be definitive; it treats common operations and only those that can be presented in a reasonably short space. A few very useful operations with longer explanations are given in the appendices; the rest of them are listed with the advice: See a bigger book.
