Das Oromo gehört zu den kuschitischen Sprachen innerhalb der afroasiatischen Sprachfamilie. Der hierzu zählende Boraana-Dialekt wird von etwa 50.000 Sprechern in Nord-Kenia beherrscht. Die vorliegende Grammatik bietet eine synchrone Beschreibung des Boraana-Oromo auf der Basis von phonologischen, morphologischen und lexikalischen Daten. Sie enthält Textmuster sowie ein Boraana-Englisch- und ein Englisch-Boraana-Lexikon. *** Oromo is, both in terms of geographical extension and in terms of number of speakers, an important African language. It is spoken as a majority language in the southern half of Ethiopia. Along with Somali, Afar and a number of other languages, Oromo is part of the Cushitic branch of the so-called Afroasiatic language family. Boraana is an Oromo dialect which is spoken by an estimated number of 50.000 people in North-Kenya. The study presented here is data-oriented and provides phonological, morphological and lexical material in particular. Special attention is given to the status of wordfinal vowels and their role in phonology, morphology and morphosyntax. The facts presented here contribute to an understanding of Oromo in general and of Oromo dialect differentiation especially.
