Heraclitea

This volume contains approximately 350 texts with testimonia and quotations on Heraclitus from the 5th to 1st centuries BC, featuring contributions from figures such as Cratylus, Plato, Aristotle, and Cicero. It focuses on the first part of Traditio (A), covering testimonia and quotations that clearly refer to Heraclitus, spanning from Epicharmus in the early 5th century BC to Philo of Alexandria at the turn of the 1st century AD. The 296-page book is organized into 62 chapters, each dedicated to a witness or a group of anonymous witnesses, and includes significant sections on Cratylus (52 texts), Plato (42 texts), Aristotle (57 texts), Theophrastus (14 texts), and others. Each text is structured with five components: internal numbering, external numbering, references (including authors and critical editions), the original text in Greek or Latin, and a French translation. Additionally, there are three critical apparatuses: cross-references to indirect witnesses and parallel texts, references to previous editions of Heraclitus, and manuscript variants along with conjectures by modern scholars. A free booklet is also appended, providing an overview of the edition.
