The selection from Adolf Wolf's work included in this volume concentrates on the central concern of his comparative studies, the relations between French and German literature. This apparent limitation makes in fact for a heightened focus on an area where Wolf has yet to put forward a comprehensive unified overview (if we disregard the relevant section in his cultural history). Thus this volume may claim to legitimately stand alongside his comparative monographs on the Tagelied, the heroic saga and the Tristan motif as an adequate representation of the significance classical courtly narrative has had in his work as a whole. - The volume was published on 12 September 1999, Alois Wolf's 70th birthday.
