Religious education and Christian theologies

Developments in theology and religious education across various countries foster a renewed dialogue between these fields. This book emphasizes the role of Christian theologies in relation to religious education, which is part of the public school curriculum in most European countries. Recognized as an academic subject, religious education encompasses both education and religion. Its relationship with theology, religious studies, and educational philosophy varies due to differing traditions and developments throughout Europe. A working group of nine experts from eight countries collaborated for two years under the Intereuropean Commission on Church and School (ICCS) and the Comenius-Institut in Münster, Germany. Their collaborative process resulted in diverse articles that reflect group discussions, ongoing project reports, and theoretical analyses based on relevant literature. Collectively, these contributions aim to inspire various activities and exploration within the field of religious education at multiple levels. Notable contributors include Roland Biewald, Gertud Ide Yversen, Juha Luodeslampi, Valentin Koshuharov, Alma Lanser-van der Velde, Gordon Mitchell, Gaynor Pollard, Sturla Sagberg, and Peter Schreiner, with a foreword by Hans Spinder.
