SAC 2007 marked the 14th annual workshop on Selected Areas in Cryptography, hosted for the first time at the University of Ottawa. Previous workshops took place at various institutions, including Queen’s University, Carleton University, the University of Waterloo, the Fields Institute, Memorial University, and Concordia University. The workshop aims to create a stimulating environment for cryptology researchers to present and discuss their latest work. The themes for this year included the design and analysis of symmetric key cryptosystems, primitives for symmetric key cryptography (such as block and stream ciphers, hash functions, and MAC algorithms), efficient implementations of both symmetric and public key algorithms, and innovative defenses against malicious software. A total of 73 papers were submitted, with one withdrawn and 25 accepted for presentation. Additionally, two invited speakers contributed to the workshop: Dan Bernstein with a talk on “Edwards Coordinates for Elliptic Curves” and Moti Yung, who delivered the Stafford Tavares Lecture on “Cryptography and Virology Inter-Relationships.” The Program Committee and external reviewers played a crucial role in curating the program, ensuring a high-quality selection of presentations.
