The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the financial turmoil in Brazil during 2001/2002 on the grounds of recent financial crises theory. Within this context, the focus lies on the analysis of financial market news, such as provided by Bloomberg news. The research question is what events lead to the severe currency devaluation and the increased risk premium in Brazil during that time.
