Sustainability is defined as the capacity to meet present needs while ensuring future generations can meet theirs, but achieving this goal is challenging. Universities must engage deeply in the sustainability discourse, moving beyond superficial involvement. This book contributes to fostering sustainability in higher education by addressing opportunities, challenges, and trends. It features a variety of papers from university lecturers, professors, students, and practitioners, alongside practical projects that showcase current trends and future perspectives in sustainability. Developed as part of the JELARE project, funded by ALFA III—a European Union program promoting cooperation between Europe and Latin America in higher education—this book aims to inform, inspire, and engage the entire university community in implementing sustainable development principles. Released during the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development led by UNESCO, it documents and disseminates global initiatives while paving the way for new ones.
