Increasing interaction among multilingual communities necessitates effective services for multilingual communication. The Language Grid initiative aims to create an infrastructure enabling users to develop composite language services for intercultural collaboration. Its goal is to help communities build customized multilingual environments that address local language barriers. Key stakeholders include language resource providers, service users, and grid operators coordinating these efforts. This book comprises 18 chapters divided into six parts, summarizing research findings and development activities related to the Language Grid. Part I outlines the framework of service-oriented collective intelligence connecting providers, users, and operators, introducing software tools like the service grid server and Language Grid Toolbox, both available under open-source licenses. Part II focuses on technologies for service workflows that integrate atomic language services. Part III discusses research on sharing and utilizing these services, while Part IV explores various applications for intercultural collaboration. Part V highlights the Language Grid's role in translation tasks, including the localization of industrial documents and Wikipedia articles.
