Comparative studies on the pottery of sector AK of the royal building in Tell Mozan, Urkeš (Syria)

Více o knize

This publication examines ceramics discovered at Tell Mozan, the site of the ancient city Urkeš, where excavations have been ongoing since 1990 by the International Institute of Mesopotamian Area Studies (IIMAS). The ceramics were found in area AK, the palace's service wing, and are categorized into three main occupational phases from the last quarter of the third millennium BC. Alice Bianchi's study focuses on the relationship between these ceramics and those from various sites in the Syrian Jazirah and neighboring regions, including the Balikh valley, Iraqi Jazirah, and Upper Tigris valley. The analysis begins with a detailed exposition of the ceramics from area AK, organized by phases and shape types, followed by a comparative analysis with ceramics from other sites in the region. The findings are summarized in a concluding chapter that discusses specific aspects of manufacture, such as unique ware types and decoration patterns, and presents the evolution of shape types during the Early Jazirah IV and V periods, along with their geographical spread. This work enhances the understanding of cultural development in the Syrian Jazirah during this period and highlights the exchanges and influences with surrounding areas.
