Více o knize
The dramatically growing incidence of overweight and obesity in the industrialized nations has in turn led to a considerable increase in the number of bariatric surgical procedures. Conservative treatment options such as dieting, lifestyle interventions, or pharmacological treatment have so far only led to disappointing results. Thus, bariatric surgery currently remains the most efficient and effective therapy to treat obesity and its associated comorbidity. This publication reviews different aspects of bariatric surgery: It addresses various surgical techniques and their respective results, as well as the underlying physiological mechanisms. Moreover, the diagnostic work-up prior to bariatric interventions and surgical strategies to treat complications or weight regain are dealt with in detail. Providing a comprehensive overview and update on the most relevant aspects of bariatric surgery, this publication will help both bariatric and non-bariatric surgeons to increase their knowledge in the field.
