This book provides an overview of translation and introduces major linguistic theories relevant to English-Spanish translation. It addresses the concept of translation, key theoretical approaches, and the influence of linguistic paradigms on translation studies. The text explores the role of the translator, translation competence, and significant theoretical challenges such as translatability vs. untranslatability and fidelity vs. fluency. It also discusses translation strategies, practical issues in English-Spanish translation, the impact of new technologies, and methods for evaluating translations. Each chapter features three theoretical sections on these topics, along with suggestions for further reading and translation tasks. Ana Fernández Guerra, with a B.A. Honours in Modern Languages, degrees in English and Hispanic Studies, and a Ph.D. in Translation Studies, has been a Senior Lecturer at Universitat Jaume I since 1999.
